Where are you based?
I live in the rural village of Weir which is just outside Bacup in Lancashire. See the contact section for my address

How much notice do you need?
I can get booked up very quickly as I only take on limited orders due to the fact that I devote my time to your cake and add the details to make your cake special. I may be able to fit in a sponge cake at short notice (depending upon design) but all fruit cakes need at least 2-3 months lead time.
My advice is that if you want me to make your cake then secure the date with a deposit. Generally couples book at least a year in advance with me.

How do you make the cakes?
All the cakes are baked to order using fresh ingredients. I don't freeze my cakes as you are paying for a premium fresh product.

What flavours do you make?
My most popular flavours are vanilla, rich chocolate, carrot cake, lemon sponge, rich and moist fruitcake, red velvet, moist coconut cake, scrummy toffee and also last but not least coffee sponge. I make a variety of flavoured fillings including various delicious  buttercream and ganache (cream and chocolate). Ganache is used as a coating under the sugarpaste under all my wedding cakes to give stability and structure. There are many flavour combinations so just ask! Tasting consultations are charged at £20. You get to choose three cakes to taste and get to take home plenty of cake too! Payment must be made prior to the day of the consultation.  Consultations with no tastings are free of charge.

Do you deliver?
Yes I can deliver cakes.
Wedding cakes can be delivered and set up at your venue and I strongly recommend that I deliver and set up for you.
Please ask at the time of booking for delivery times and delivery charges.

I'm not sure what cake I want.
Many customers just give me a brief. I can then provide some hand drawn sketches and we can design your cake together.

How do I pay?
Payment can be made by bank transfer or cash.
Before making any payment please ensure that you contact me to ensure the date is available.

How much cake do I need?
These are approximate guides and depend ultimately upon how the cake is sliced and how large each piece of cake is:
4"cake feeds approx 5-8 people
6" cake feeds approx 15-20 people
8" cake feeds approx 25-40+ people
10" cake feeds approx 40-50+ people
12" cake feeds approx 60-70+ people

What are the prices?

Prices for my cakes are stated on the photos. The price includes all sponge flavours and various different fillings of your choice. A small additional charge may be applied depending upon flavour combinations and fluctuations in raw material costs although this is minimal.  There is a supplement for fruit cake and diamante toppers. Delivery charge will quoted at the time of consultation.

During a consultation I would sketch out your design and would be able to give you a final quote. The final price will depend upon the level of detail, amount of modelling required and the overall design of your cake in terms of intricate details and skills required. Your wedding cake is only confirmed with me once a non-refundable deposit has been received.

 Terms and conditions

How do I secure  a date?
A non refundable deposit of £100-£150 will secure the date.
50% of the final balance (less the deposit already paid) is due 4 months before the wedding day and the final outstanding balance due 6 weeks before the wedding date. Failure to pay on these dates may result in the order being cancelled and all monies paid will be non refundable.

The deposit, once paid is not refundable if you cancel for any reason.  If you want to cancel but the full balance has been paid, you can  request another date/cake for later in the year (if that date is available). However if the date is not available then monies will not be refunded.

Cakes being collected
You will be advised upon collection if there are any non edible supports in the cake and how to remove them. (Some models may require supports and so will not be edible). You will also be advised on how to store the cake (room temperature for sugarpaste covered cakes and NOT in the fridge).
The cake needs to be transported on a flat surface (a car boot is ideal) and not a a sloping car seat or on a friend's knee.
The cake should not be left in a vehicle for a prolonged period of time. Please be aware of heat and humidity and how it can effect the cake if left (too hot or too cold can affect the internal structure of a cake and cause it to collapse).
If you are taking the cake to a venue please ensure these instructions are passed on to any relevant people as Wedding Cakes by Sharon cannot be held responsible for the mishandling of the cake in anyway.

I strongly recommend that I deliver and set up your wedding cake for you.
If I am delivering a cake and setting up at the venue I will liaise with the staff there weeks before your wedding and on the day itself. I will take a photo and video of the cake once I have set it up. If the cake is moved or disturbed by venue staff, Weddings Cakes by Sharon cannot be held responsible for any damage to the cake. Please ensure that you speak to your wedding co-ordinator at the venue and make them aware of your views regarding the cake and where it should be placed. It should not be near a window (heat!) or close to a door (risk of being damaged) and it should not be moved once I have set it up. Your cake should be in a place where all your guests (and yourself) can admire it.

Cake stand hire
Cake stands (wooden) may be hired but a deposit of £100 is required. The stand must be returned within 4 days from the date of collection/delivery in PERFECT CONDITION. Any marks/defects will result in the full £100 being non refundable.
